LEICA M-A TYP-127 (10370) 35mm FILM RANGEFINDER CAMERA BLACK CHROME BEAUTIFUL. Absolutely beautiful, mint- condition Leica M-A (Leica code 10370, serial #4914148), 35mm film rangefinder camera, in the very stealthy and visually gorgeous black chrome finish version, with a 0.72x viewfinder with frame-lines for 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 90mm and 135mm lenses. The camera comes complete with its body cap only, and a Leica customer service box. There is no original box or any other paraphernalia.Used very little, the camera for sale is in a superb overall condition throughout: other than some extremely faint rub marks on the sides just above the strap lugs, there are no other really discernible signs of use. The original plastic protective strip still covers the baseplate. The rangefinder window is spotless, as it is the camera inner chamber. Mechanically everything is flawless: all speeds are accurate, rewinding is a breeze and the shutter sound is a simple delight. Expensive indeed, but if film photography is your thing, then the Leica M-A is arguably one of very best 35mm film cameras one can get today. Built like a tank, and essential to the core (there is no built-in meter), this camera will never let you down.
Focusing on the founding principles of photography, the Leica M-A (Typ 127) is a 35mm film rangefinder camera characterised by its simplicity and unobtrusiveness. As a completely mechanical camera, no battery is required for operation and the only exposure control offered is a choice of shutter speed, up to 1/1000 sec. A large, bright 0.72x-magnification viewfinder pairs with a precise rangefinder mechanism to enable comparative manual focusing control with M-mount lenses, along with parallax-corrected compositional framing. The body features black-coloured chromed brass top and bottom covers, as well as an all-metal body design, to offer both durability as well as an aesthetic, minimal appearance.Designed for intuitiveness and efficient operability, the precision afforded by the M-A serves to complement a straight-forward working method. Classic 35mm film rangefinder features a large, bright 0.72x-magnification viewfinder. Completely mechanical operation requires no battery and permits working with just the basic aspects of photography: shutter speed, aperture, and film speed. A rear ISO dial can be used to indicate the speed of film in use. The top shutter speed dial permits selection of speeds from 1/1000 sec. With a bulb setting also available for long exposures. Flash sync is available at all speeds up to 1/50 sec.
The hot shoe incorporates a center contact for compatibility with a wide array of flashes. Compatible with all M-mount lenses ranging in focal lengths from 16mm to 135mm. Image field frame lines are automatically activated with each mounted lens, and offer an accurate, parallax-corrected reference for image composition. Alternatively, image field lines can be selected to pre-visualize the composition of other focal length lenses.
A user review from the net. With the release of this fully mechanical film camera in an age where everything is digital I cannot else but say that Leica totally get it.
Leica understands that real photographers don't need a lot to take good pictures, basically an understanding of light and exposure an aperture, shutter and some light sensitive material aka 35 mm film. How else did all the masters of the 1930's through to the 1960's take their pictures?
They did not have any of the bells and whistles that modern digital cameras have. Few companies seem to understand that concept anymore.Don't be fooled by thinking that a digital M is the same as fully mechanical M, they are not. They may look the same but in terms of quality, feel and responsiveness, the digital M's don't even come close to this Leica M-A or the 2003 Leica MP for that matter. The digital M's are basically expensive computers with a piece of glass destined to be outdated in 5 - 10 years from now, as overall digital technology will improve. Despite the high quality materials that Leica uses, they still are digital cameras or commodity electronics.
For the Leica M-A, there is nothing to improve. No screens, no megapixels, no firmware.
It produces negatives that cannot get corrupted on faulty hard drives. It uses zone focusing on the lens and allows you to focus faster than the fastest DSLR available. You can make traditional darkroom prints but also digital inkjet prints if you want to.It will not be obsolete in 10 years from now as, contrary to what they want you to believe, film is not dead. It will never be dead either.
The joy of holding and using this camera is something you have to experience. It will be the best and most pleasurable camera you have ever owned. It rises far above ANY digital camera ever released. It's just about the image and the fun of taking pictures.
