Description -Leica MP #143 original PROFESSIONAL camera and matching P143 inner chasis -Summicron 50mm f2 black paint early Lens serial #1468274 -Leica Leicavit MP matching black paint base plate winder -Special Leica case to accommodate the Leicavit. Papers, tag and IMOOP proper MP code box. This is THE Leica MP original black paint camera.

Regardless of price, this is truly a 35mm photographic marvel and historic masterpiece. In September 1956 and two more batches in 1957, Leica made a total of 450 Leica MP cameras in black paint and silver chrome finish.

#1-11 in chrome (1956), #12-150 in black paint and # 151-450 in chrome in 1957. Some say that production stopped at #402 but I have seen original MP chrome camera past #402.

Given to only select few and important photojournalists around the world and obviously the black paint version, being only 137 examples were the most difficult and coveted to get, and still is to this day. The MP is actually a prototype to the M2 where the Leicavit winder was attached and users would be able to shoot up to 2 frames per second without taking their eye off the viewfinder. Most importantly, this was an M3 with a modified professional construction.

With the M3 double stroke film advance lever, triangular "rabbit ear" lugs, and 50/90/135mm viewfinder frame lines 0.91 magnification. The M3 was considered, and is still considered to be the greatest rangefinder camera ever made.

The MP was a derivative but a totally unique production to the M3 and late to come M2 camera. Lacking the self time, the external "quick" set frame counter, and the addition of the Leicavit was expertly, and specifically manufactures and designed for the MP at the time, later for the M2. Not only being unique to any other production camera, the MP had a very important place in photographic history as only the BEST OF THE BEST were given the opportunity. I can not stress the importance and and beauty of this camera.

Not to mention that I have never seen one that is so complete. The camera and lens combination is original to each other. L seal on the camera.

The case is rare and in wonderful condition. The papers are outstanding but most importantly, I HAVE NEVER seen a TAG and I have NEVER seen a IMOOP red box before. In 20 years, I know of a handful of black paint MP that I have come up but never like this.

Leica 50mm Summicron f2 lens -Leica Leicavit MP -Vintage Brown leather camera case to accommodate the camera, Leicavit and 50mm lens -Camera factory tag matching #143 -Paperwork - brochure and price cataloge sheet -Proper (never seen before) IMOOP Leica MP Red felt box Cosmetics 9/10 -No dings, dents or major marks -Some signs of wear and marks on the soft black paint finish! -Leatherette shows chipping on the side edges. The camera was service and refurbished by Leica in the 1970's. Overall in wonderful condition considering! Mechanics 9+/10 -Shutter speeds are accurate -All camera functions are working well -Focusing is smooth -Aperture clicks are crisp Optics 9+/10 -Rangefinder/viewfinder is bright and clean -No fog, fungus, separation or scratches in lens glass.

You will never see another MP like this. This is truly a magnificent camera and I believe it to be one of the most complete, outstanding examples of a black MP that you will be able to find ever. Considered THE HOLY GRAIL of Leica.

THE original black paint MP #143 camera sets with Leicavit, 50mm F2 Summicron, Box, papers, case and tag. Just spectacular in every respect!
